Under-age sex, drug and alcohol abuse, violent gangs, divorce and family meltdown - all these things are signs of breakdown Britain today. Wrenched free from the moorings of traditional values inspired by the Christian faith, our youth know their prospects are bleak. Britain, in both moral and financial terms, is heading towards bankruptcy.
As always, the diagnosis points to the treatment needed. If the turning away from bible-based values is at the root of the problem in our society, then the solution is obvious. We need a radical re-awakening to the truths and the challenges of the Christian gospel. Ours is not a mere moral or religious message. It speaks of spiritual life, restoration and health. It has to do with the regeneration of the heart - how else can our inborn selfcentredness as fallen human beings be transformed into lovers of God and lovers of our neighbours? This offer of spiritual regeneration is unique to Christianity and is found only through faith in Christ.
It is time to take this message to the youth of our generation who, through no fault of their own, have inherited a society in the self-destructive tailspin of despair. We must love them, live before them and show them our God who promises to give them a future and a hope. That is why Kensington Temple is and always will be a youthorientated church.
